Flexifoil Rage

The Flexifoil Rage is the successor to the Bullet series of kites. This kite is not a Bullet in new colours, but a completely new kite from the ground up and designed to be better than the Bullet in all areas of performance and usability. Improved planform The planform of the Rage has been heavily modified. The kite maintains the sweeping leading edge of the Bullet, but has larger wingtips which help the kite to track and turn better. It also has a thinner centre chord depth and more of a hoop shape which helps to improve the stability of the kite. Top quality materials The bridle line for the Rage is made from sleeved Dyneema. This has excellent strength and stretch properties which means the kite maintains its shape in the sky, even in strong wind conditions. We pre-stretch every metre of bridle line in our factory to ensure that the constructional stretch is taken out of the line. We have tested several types of sail material for the Rage and have decided to use Chikara ripstop nylon as it offers the best combination of strength, tear resistance and long-term durability. New reinforcements Flexifoil have incorporated several new reinforcements into the kite. Most important are the reinforcements around the rib tab points, where the bridle is sewn onto the kites. These can be high load areas and the reinforcements prevent the kite sail from tearing. Also, every internal rib vent has a reinforcement around it to help prevent the ribs from ‘blowing out’ in the event of a sudden impact. Variable cell numbers The three smallest sizes have 15 cells, and the two larger sizes have 17 cells. The larger kites need to extract as much power from the light winds as possible, and the two extra cells provide a cleaner profile and a more efficient wing. The smaller kites are designed to control the energy of the wind in medium to strong wind conditions. Leading edge gauze We built many prototypes both with and without gauze in the leading edge to find out whether it contributed to the performance of the kite. We found the gauze ensured the leading edge of the kite kept its shape better, which allowed us to make the profile of the kite more powerful. Ultimately, the Rages with gauze flew better than those with a fully open vent. Intelligent design Flexifoil are continually developing their design software and can now model, predict and analyse the actual 3D shape of a kite when it’s in the air and flying. Meaning they can shape the panels more accurately so that the kite has less creases and a smoother more accurate profile. This has resulted in a highly aerodynamic wing which helps all performance characteristics of this kite. Aspect Ratio The Rage has a moderate aspect ratio of 3.5 for the smaller sizes, and 3.6 for the larger sizes. This moderate aspect ratio, combined with all the other features make the kite easy to control and maintains high performance. Ease of use The Flexifoil Neutron has excellent stability, is well behaved and very predictable. It will never drop out of the sky unexpectedly and is intuitive to fly under control throughout its wind range. Jumping The powerful profile together with moderate aspect ratio plan-form, provide a well balanced bar pressure which makes the kite forgiving and easy to feel – getting jumps dialled is simple. Within its normal wind range sending the kite results in big jumps with outstanding float. Rock Solid and Stable The front loaded aerofoil keeps the power in the front of the kite. Simplicity through design This hybrid design kite uses two high quality Riley Pulleys in the bridle to give great depower range. These have been designed to work in tough marine environments. The kite is also fitted with the EZ-Pump system and the flying lines are colour-coded to offer a fast, easy and safe set-up straight ‘out of the bag’. Setup Options, 20m or 25m / 4-line or 5-line The standard set-up for the kite is with 4-line mode on 20m lines. This gives a great balance in keeping the kite close for good controllability, good speed on the water and excellent high end wind range. To extend the low end wind range of the kite, or have a larger wind window Flexifoil also offer upgrade 5m line extenders, to take it to 25m lines. The kite is configured so it can also be flown with a 5th line (5th-line pack available as an optional extra). When you are using the 5th line option, novices will be able to relaunch the kite with ease and have added confidence which the 5-line safety system offers. Quality Built-In The leading edge tube is made from Dimension Polyant 175gm Dacron. This is the most expensive Dacron on the market, and testing has shown it is more stable (lowest bias deformation), most durable (the resin keeps the fibres bonded together longer, and the yarns have highest breaking strength, so has the best tear strength). By using this fabric it produces the most accurate Leading edge when compared to the designed shape, which helps keep the kites performance over its life time, (crashing in the water with inferior Dacron’s can lead to stretching of the fibres and deforming kites with reduced flight performance). Safety System The Flexifoil Neutron primary release is simple to use and dependable. The system kills 90% of the power in one fast action. The kite comes down at the edge of the window ready for relaunch. This is a proven safety system which is used on all other Flexifoil water kites. Flexifoil believe that it’s the best system available on the market for ease of use , reliability, and ease of re-assembly – possible even when it’s underwater. Neutron Bar system The Flexfoil Neutron Bar is simple, effective and comfortable. You can trim the kite with ease whilst riding. The Bar pressure give great feedback without being too heavy on your arms making for a comfortable session. The centre line and leader lines are all easily adjustable, meaning no matter your size you’ll be able to set the bar up to suit. A number of parts of the bar are also upgradable meaning that as your ability grows you can customise the bar to suit. Relaunch There are two possible relaunching scenarios on the Flexifoil Neutron, and in both cases it’s very simple and easy to get going again ... 1) The kite has landed at the edge of the window as a result of using the safety system or letting go of the bar. In this case, steer the kite off the water. 2) The kite has landed in the centre of the window (on its front) as a result of steering the kite in to the water. To relaunch simply swim towards the kite to roll it on its back, steer to the edge of the window and then steer off the water. This relaunch technique is the same as a conventional ‘C’ shape kite. Wave riding (Tunable) The Flexifoil Neutron won’t pull you off the wave and the improved profile makes it very difficult to stall. It drives through the turn keeping you powered and ahead of the whitewater. Bar pressure (Tunable) The bar pressure is nicely balanced to give good feedback without being too heavy on the arms. Naish Charger Delta Water Relaunch Auto-relaunch allows the kite to naturally roll on it's side and move to the edge of the wind window waiting for the rider's input to launch. Geo-Tech Design The principle of the Geotech design is to keep the tension of the canopy in between the struts on the leading edge side of the kite. Geo-Tech is extremely simple, as it requires fewer seams. The Geo-Tech concept provides constant tension in the kites canopy by incorporating straight line segments in the leading edge. With the constant canopy tension, the overall foil profile is perfectly controlled and defined, which allows the kite to remain extremely stable through the entire range of depower and considerably increases the wind range.
