In 2002 a tragic accident occured during a sand yacht race held at the Fylde International Sand Yacht Club (F.I.S.Y.C.) a member of the public was tragically killed as she walked across the beach at St. Anne's.  Fylde Borough Council were forced to ban wheels as an intermediate step as investigations / court cases were carried out.  These were initially by the crown, HSE and then by the civil court as the family of Mrs Cruz.  The original media reports may be found by following the links;

The relevant court cases ended in 2006 and since then Hangtime Kitesports, along with Trax Windsports Centre, The Fylde Kite Access Comittee, Fleetwood Kite Club, the BKSA, BPKA, BFKA & FISLY have been trying to negotiate with the council to bring back wind powered wheel sports whilst ensuring that an accident of this kind can never be repeated.

This has led to 4 years hard work and other posts here will update you on the current situation
